My "Kit"
The first item I will cover is my "kit". I NEVER ever head into the backcountry without this
kit of gear in my pack. Many people call this kit a "possibles kit". It
is a small kit of gear that I carry that includes some really important
gear that I might need on the trail. I change it up from time to time
depending on exactly what I am doing. An example of this is that in the
winter I will include my inclinometer. I also always have a map of the
area where I will be.
My kit typically includes the following items:
1. Sunscreen
2. Lip Balm
3. Fire starter/Stormproof Matches
4. First Aid Items
5. Headlamp
6. Compass
7. Meds such as Pepto and Advil
8. Knife
9. Cord
10. Water Treatment
11. Bandana
12. Feet Warmers
13. Duct Tape
14. Batteries (for my GPS and headlamp)

I use an Eagle Creek 1/4 Cube for my kit. This kit is small and
light. They can be found just about anywhere but here is a link to REI:
