Introduction Some of the most
frequently asked questions I get from visitors to this site
are regarding gear. One thing I can say about gear is that gear
requirements are different for everyone. Things like the type of gear
you use, how much gear you carry and how much food and water you carry is
different for everyone.
Planning for a trip on the Colorado Trail can be a
tricky endeavor. Things to consider when heading out to hike or bike the
trail can include but are not limited to:
1. How long you plan to be out
2. How physically fit you are
3. What kind of backcountry experience you have
4. Are you going out alone or with a group
5. What time of year is it (i.e. what are the current weather
conditions)
My personal philosophy
Each time I
go out into the backcountry I follow a very important guideline that I set for myself long
ago:
Every time I go into the backcountry, even if not alone, I go
prepared to be able to spend the night out if I get lost or injured.
In this online gear guide I intend to provide some
guidelines about gear and trail preparation. The section is meant to
only be a guide to help you prepare for the trail, whether it be a day
hike or a thru-hike.
As with everything else on this website - it is work
in progress so check back for updates...
